Some practical privacy points to note for developers implementing VedaXML solutions involving individual credit history data are:

  • In the customer system the operator who initiates a credit enquiry request should always be auditable. That is, the request must be able to be traced back to a particular operator. This is a requirement to facilitate privacy audits and also to aid in any investigations around providing the particular credit facility.
  • For credit being advanced without a written contract in place (e.g. over the phone) the operator's software and potentially the systems being designed have a privacy role to play. Potential customers should be talked through a verbal script (displayed in the software screens) with the completion of which being a mandatory check box item to step through for a phone credit deal to progress.
  • Secure storage of the enquiry and response data must also be designed in accordance with National Privacy Principles
